Summary

This article explains how to disable the type-ahead feature (autofill for city, state and zip) in the

Solatech Window Covering Software.


More Information

One of the features of the Solatech Window Covering Software is to automatically fill in, as you type,

the cities, states and zip codes for the various address fields. For example, as you type in the letters

"Hi" in the city field the rest of the city name "High Point" would be automatically added allowing

you to press Tab and move on to the next field without have to type in the whole city name.


To disable this feature

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious, system-wide problems that may

require you to reinstall Windows to correct them. Solatech cannot guarantee that any problems

resulting from the use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use this tool at your own risk.


Remove the existing type-ahead data

Note: This must be done on each workstation.


  1. Click Start, Programs, Accessories, Windows Explorer.
  2. Navigate to the following folder: "C:\Program Files\Solatech\WCS 4" or "C:\Program Files (x86)\Solatech\WCS 4".
  3. Look for a file with name "typeahed.dat".
  4. Select the file.
  5. From the File menu, click Delete.


If you don't see the file then it may be hidden. Try this:

  1. Click Start, Programs, Accessories, Windows Explorer.
  2. Navigate to the following folder: "C:\Program Files\Solatech\WCS 4" or "C:\Program Files (x86)\Solatech\WCS 4".
  3. From the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
  4. Click the View tab.
  5. Find and select the advaned option "Show hidden files and folders".
  6. Click OK.
  7. Look for a file with name "typeahed.dat".
  8. Select the file.
  9. From the File menu, click Delete.


Disable the feature

Note: This must be done on each workstation.

  1. Click Start, Run.
  2. Type "regedit" (without the quotes) and press Enter.
  3. From the list of folders on the right, navigate to the following folder: My Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Solatech\Window Covering Software\4.0
  4. Click on the 4.0 folder to select it.
  5. From the Edit menu, click New, DWORD Value. This will create a new entry on the right side of the screen called "New Value #1". Change this to "TypeAhead" and then press Enter.
  6. Close registry editor.


To re-enable the feature

Note: This must be done on each workstation.

  1. Click Start, Run.
  2. Type "regedit" (without the quotes) and press Enter.
  3. From the list of folders on the right, navigate to the following folder: My Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Solatech\Window Covering Software\4.0
  4. Click on the 4.0 folder to select it.
  5. Locate the named entry from the list of items on the right called "TypeAhead" and doubleclick on it.
  6. Change the Value Data to the number 1 and click OK.
  7. Close registry editor.
