Summary

This article explains how to determine the margins for a Windows printer.

More Information

In order to correctly setup reports and labels (mainly labels) in SWCS it's important to know what

the margins are. Without correct margins the alignment will be off when the reports/labels are

printed.

Margin information can usually be found in the documentation that came with the printer. Look in the

technical specifications section for information on the top/bottom and left/right margins.

Another easy way to find the margins is to use Microsoft Word.

If you have Microsoft Word 2010

  1. Change your default printer to be the printer for which you want to identify the margins.
  2. Run Microsoft Word
  3. Click the Page Layout tab
  4. Click the Margins button and then click the Custom Margins... menu item.
  5. Change the top, bottom, left and right margins to 0 and click OK.
  6. If the margins are not valid (and for 0 they usually are not) you will see and error message with a Fix button. Click the Fix button. Word will enter the minimum margins for the default printer.
  7. Document the margins.
  8. Click Cancel.
