Summary

This article explains what happens to your Solatech Window Covering Software (SWCS) when you

rename a computer.

More Information

When a SWCS company is created small configuration file, the .psd file, is created and stored in the

\Companies folder. This configuration file is what is used when you 'open' a company from within the

software.

One of the pieces of information in the file is the name of the computer on which the company

database resides. If you rename the computer after this .psd file is created then it will be referencing

a computer that no longer exists.

To fix this all you need to do is edit the .psd file and change the computer name reference. To edit

the file:

  1. Run the Solatech Window Covering Software.
  2. From the File menu, click File Manager.
  3. Select the File Type 'Companies'.
  4. Click on the Open Folder icon. This will open the folder that contains the company files.
  5. From the View menu, click Details.
  6. Scroll through the list of file names until you see the a file with the name of you company and a Type of PSD file.
  7. Select the file.
  8. From the File menu click Open With...
  9. Open the file with Notepad.
  10. Find the text that references the old computer name. It will be the text to the left of \SOLATECHDB. Replace the old computer name with the new computer name.
  11. Save the changes and close Notepad.
  12. Close File Manager.
  13. From the File menu, click Open company.
  14. Select the company and it should now open.

Note: You MAY receive a warning on attempting to open the file in Notepad that access is denied.

This can normally be resolved by right-clicking on the .psd file, click Properties, select the

Security tab.

Click Edit, then click Add. Enter the name "Everyone" (without the quotes) and click OK, then OK,

then OK. Retry opening the file in Notepad.
